How the scam works
The off-platform request
A Tasker or client asks to move payment outside the app, often offering a small discount as incentive.
The lost protection
Once payment happens off-platform, TaskRabbit's dispute resolution and fraud protections no longer apply.
The phishing email or fake site
A separate tactic: emails or lookalike websites impersonate TaskRabbit to steal your password and account details.
The loss
Money sent off-platform or account access stolen through phishing is very difficult to recover.
How to spot it
- Any request to pay outside the TaskRabbit app.
- An email that doesn't end in @taskrabbit.com or @taskrabbit.zendesk.com.
- A website that looks like TaskRabbit but isn't the official taskrabbit.com domain.
What to do
- Always pay through the official TaskRabbit app, never off-platform.
- Verify the sender's email domain before trusting any TaskRabbit communication.
- Report suspicious accounts or requests directly to TaskRabbit support.
- If you've already paid off-platform or shared credentials, contact your bank and change your password immediately.
